Stakeholders demand outright cancellation of NYSC online registration fee

For sometime now, most people keep questioning the reason behind the current NYSC online registration fee which was introduced last year and has been made compulsory starting from 2015 NYSC Batch A online Registration. Parents and prospective corps members have called for an outright cancellation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on-line registration charge. The stakeholders made the demand in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. They stated the online registration charge was too exorbitant for prospective corps members to bear after staying at home for sometime without any job to take care of this.

In addition they said the increasing financial hardship in the country and other socio-economic factors needs to be put into consideration by the appropriate authorities. In an interview with some persons, A man stated that the initiators of the policy didn’t take into account a variety of components before coming up with the price and other logistics for the new method of NYSC mobilisation and registration.

The thought is an excellent one however the timing is improper, where will these younger graduates get N4,000 to register for the scheme. I’m not against the new format for registration, nevertheless it must be made free within the first instance then subsequently, the corps could possibly be levied a token,’’ he stated.

Mr. Dairus Akaleku, additionally a guardian, decried the measure adopted by the NYSC to introduce the new system of registration. He said the entire process has been marred by excessive costs fixed for the exercise.

A prospective corps member resident within the FCT, who spoke on the situation of anonymity, told NAN that he couldn’t afford the said amount for his call up letter.

He informed NAN on situation of anonymity that the idea was novel and preferred it to the manual technique.
